Scale Model - Men Should Weep
Design created as part of the Edinburgh-based Scenehouse course in design and construction for theatre.
Scale 1:25.

This set was designed to fit the Citizens Theatre in Glasgow, for a hypothetical production of Ena Lamont Stewart's play Men Should Weep. It takes place in the cripplingly impoverished east-end of Glasgow during the 1930s Depression, and follows the life of Maggie, a mother and wife, as she struggles to make ends meet. The family live in a decrepit single-end flat where neighbours and family members come and go throughout the play. From beginning to end, the characters are surrounded by the ever-present racket of the people living around them in the crumbling tenement.
Men Should Weep tackles gender roles and domestic violence in a world of crippling poverty and near non-existing privacy, all interwoven with rich Glaswegian humour, tiding the characters through the darkest of times.
